What is happening at BAH with regards wip?Notams seem to change almost daily.One day 1000m is closed.The next notam gives 1400m closed until april and then a new notam giving full landing distance available!!Would any body care to explain what the master plan is and why they arenot using their standby runway?

Phase 3 of the airport construction is now under way. It was supposed to start about a week ago, but this being Bahrain, it didn't and started today. Under the old phase2 construction, just over 1000m of runway 30 threshhold was displaced. Now under Phase 3 it's a bit over 1400m, leaving about 2200m for landing (7 thousand feet for those who work in imperial). The hours of construction are 0300-1130z each day. During those hours the threshhold is displaced, outside those hours as far i know it's not.
Using the standby runway would be a nightmare of delays. It's the main taxiway running by the apron, if it's used as the runway you basically wouldn't be able to push off the gate if there was an aircraft within 50 miles on approach. They are eventually supposed to operate off that runway under phase4 or 5 construction, and i'm fully prepared to sit at the gate for 2+ hours whne that haapnes.

Thank you for the info.Do you have a link to this master plan?My old bus will be struggling when the temperatures start to rise and there is only 7000ft available!

just landed in bahrain today.... if the vis is below 2500 mtrs then the full runway length will be used for 30R and its also full runway on fridays and public holidays...... u cant land at 30L/12R cause their is construction there hope this helps:}

The trouble is our toulouse turkeygoes through there on weekends!I think tech stops will be become routine once the heat starts arriving.
What about base airline doing for thire long flight:}

Well, simple as taking care of the MTOW and in the A-340 case, adding some boost rockets in the wing tips to aquire V1 before Amwaj Island :\

more GDN news.The short runway made it even worse.HAHA the only fu... problem is the runway GDN not the weather.
Its taking ages to finish.Come on Bahraini Employer pay some Overtime and finish your job.

Phase 4 of the w.i.p. is a total distaster. From Sun til Thurs during the morning & upto around 2 or 3pm local the main r/w is closed so only the ermergency r/w is available. Also you need 5km vis to land otherwise the airport is closed. Nice planning. Just another kick in the teeth for Gulf Air.:ugh:
