View Full Version : Who handles who? - The 2007 thread!

2nd Jan 2007, 19:52
This was a thread in 2005 asking PPRuNers to state which airlines were handled by which handling agents. http://www.pprune.org/forums/showthread.php?t=134015

As the industry is always changing, I thought it'd be a good idea to revisit this idea by launching a new thread for 2007. I'll get the ball rolling by using EMA as an example

Penauille-Servisair

Thomsonfly, MyTravel Airways, First Choice Airways, EasyJet, Ryanair, Air Malta, Spanair, Air Europa, BritishJet, GB Airways, Austrian Arrows, Monarch Airlines, LTE.

Menzies Aviation

Thomas Cook Airlines, Eastern Airways, bmibaby (currently only ramp with bmibaby having their own front of house and dispatch staff) and bmi regional (again currently only ramp with bmibaby handling front of house and dispatch)

It seems a shame that one of the PPRuNers who contribute to this thread doesn't start a small web site to track Who Handles Who, initially for the UK and then (perhaps) for rest of Europe.

Although it could never be a 100% accurate, it would still be a useful resource.

I agree with Opssys, it would be a great resource. If the invigilators will set up a blank page it could be updated by us just like Wikpedia.:D

globespan have apparently given their handling to servisair,

In the summer we also handle Lufthansa, & Eurowings and the swiss flt mentioned further up is now operated by Darwin - on a saab 2000

having your own page to update would be much easier to keep accurate.

The Air Ground Services Site as per KiloMike's post:
Someone already has! Weell for LHR anyway.
http://www.airgrounduk.bravehost.com/
is obvously run and maintained by a 'Heathrow Insider' using Microsft Office Web Publishing Features to post their Excel Data.

Whilst there is NO reason why this could not be extended to all UK Airports, except garnering and then maintaining that level of detail would be time consuming.

When I made my initial post on this subject I was thinking of someone effectively replicating the infromation from this threads posts with a few added links to the Airport and Resident Agencies into a simple HTML template structure and doing this as a non-commercial spare time activity.

Four, or five years ago, this would have been the way to go and even today would be a quick way of getting the basic information out there.

But keeping the Information up to date (even if limited to UK Airports) could easily become a miserable chore for the poor webmaster.

So when fredtheanorak suggested
updated by us just like Wikpedia.
He was echoing my own thoughts.

However (Cassandra time).
a) I don't think (maybe I am wrong) PPRuNe would be 'up for this'.
b) A free for all update approach wouldn't work and someone would have to be in charge, to verify data etc (Moderator, Webmaster, whatever).
c) Whilst my initial thoughts would mean the site could run on the 'freespace' provided by an ISP, or Geocities et al, going down a Wiki route requires backend Databses and something like PHP server side. Plus the scripts to run it (In many cases NOT available in 'freespace')

However I still think it would be a good Idea and for a microsecond I thought of adding it to my ever increasing 'Projects to Do' list, but sense kicked in as if I complete a fifth of what is currently on the list this decade, it will be a miracle!

I hope soemone does bite the bullet as I am sure they could get some revenue from sponsership and even Google Ads. I doubt it would ever be self-supporting, but at least costs would be partially defrayed and by having a team of correspondents keeping the information up to date, it would gradaully extend coverage into Europe, almost 'organically'.

So over time it could become one of those resources that people rely on.

Aviance have recently started ramp handling also, and Flyg is of course launching a 2 a/c base for the summer, will keep Aviance busy! Air Europa is winter only (they don't have any contracts for the summer)

Anyone know who will handle XL Airways when they come here?

With the announcement of the merger of MYT and TCX it looks as though there may be a tussle for the ramp handling at some airports. At e.m.a servisair handle MYT while menzies handle TCX and with TCX having the larger share i guess menzies will keep the handling and servisair will lose out .Is there a date when all this will be finalised and is there any other airports where one of the handling agents are going to lose a contract?

MyTravel Airways signed a comprehensive handling agreement with Servisair at the end of the summer season 2006, saying that Servisair would be the preferred handling agent across the country (excluding BHX & MAN) for the next three years. Obviously, once TCX merges with MYT, they may want to discontinue this agreement in favour of Thomas Cook's own preferred handling agents, though I was told the deal was very lucrative, so it may be of interest for TCX to keep the circus. With regards to EMA, I had heard Thomas Cook was moving back to Servisair at some point, predominantly because we were able to offer a complete package including lounge access and CUSS bag drop facilities, but it looks like Menzies will still have them for this summer at least.

Penauille Servisair, the Global Aviation Ground Services Company 2006, has concluded a major three-year cooperation agreement with MyTravel Airways, one of the UK's leading holiday and leisure groups. Under the terms of this renewed contract, Penauille Servisair will provide full ground handling services across 21 airports across the UK.

After intensive negotiations, MyTravel Airways selected Penauille Servisair to renew their contract based upon their proven performance record of delivering high-quality services to the end Customer, the passengers.

The two companies will continue to work as business partners by renewing the multi-station deal at airports across the UK at Aberdeen, Blackpool, Belfast, Bournemouth, Bristol, Cardiff, Doncaster, Edinburgh, Nottingham East Midlands, London Gatwick, London Stansted, Glasgow, Humberside, Inverness, Jersey, Leeds, Liverpool, Luton, Newcastle, Sheffield and Durham Tees Valley airports.

Samantha Mackie, MyTravel Airways Customer Service Director comments: "We're looking forward to continuing our proactive working relationship with Penauille Servisair. They fully understand our aims of delivering consistently high levels of customer care and an outstanding holiday flight experience, whilst assisting us to maintain our excellent standards of on-time departures. We believe that it is imperative to have a partner on the ground that is not only willing to see our customer vision, but can help us to achieve it."

Darren Harding, Penauille Servisair VP Business Development Low Cost and Charter Carriers, is equally enthusiastic: "We are delighted to have forged this closer professional partnership with MyTravel. Based on our past experience, we look forward to our collaboration to enhance our business process further. We're convinced that this agreement provides a sound foundation for further developing both our business and our collaboration in the months and years ahead."

Penauille Servisair will provide comprehensive ground handling services for the MyTravel Airways' fleet of 19 Airbus 320/321/330 and 3 Boeing 757/767 aircraft. The Services provided by Penauille Servisair will include ticket desk, check-in, passenger and baggage handling, ramp services, fuelling, load control and communications, representation and accommodation, station supervision and administration, surface transport of passengers and crew, flight dispatch, Customer aftercare services and mail handling and aircraft maintenance.

interesting tho about dy and hlx, they always had decent loads. not quite up to sky europe but almost... HLX were a great bunch of characters to deal with, always had great craic with the skippers!

dont have a clue about AMC this summer, maybe its just a tempo arrangement with UI , i`ve never liked dealing with UI crews.... a bit cranky after flying a 737 for 5 hours......

I have seen this on the FiDS screen, 'Cargo Handle Only' under certain MYT flights.

So does Aviance do the baggage handling and Swissport do the rest?!

No. Aviance do cargo (i.e. freight) handling and Swissport do the rest.

It would be nice if someone could include the airlines services in Malta. It is very difficult to get to know this information as not even MIA's website gives any hint and Servisair's home does not help either!

I am sure that they handle the Emirates, British Jet, Hello and the British Airways and that the latter is soon leaving to go back with Air Malta. They have a total of 6 flights up till today but I do not know what the other two are.

FougaMagister
19th Apr 2007, 10:55
MIA is Miami. Malta is MLA. Not surprising that they handle both BritishJet and Hello, since BritishJet flights are operated by Hello (MD90).

Cheers

MIA stands for Malta International Airport as well. That is also the name of the governmental department that takes care of all aviation in Malta.

I got to know a few more lines that are taken care of by Globeground. there is thompson, arab airlines and australian I believe unless I got that name wrong.

I think but am not sure that Egyptair is done by servisair whilst Jet Airways is now done by Aviance. ?
Also hear that Luxair in T2 is moving or has already moved to AFSL ?

Seems to be too many handlers fighting for a piece of the cake, no wonder it is such a cut throat business, some of those handlers must be operating at a loss !

I guess there will be major shifts in contracts when Terminal re-alignment occurs next year.

I've updated my Heathrow website with current handling agents and also post T5 moves. As always it's difficult to keep track of the changes, so any further updates always welcome. The Terminal moves are a "best guess" drawn from a variety of forums, blogs, and articles etc and is subject to change.
