Anyone have a link to the Jan 1st promotion list?? Even 3 years after leaving, it still gives me a laugh every 6 months to see who is 'hot' and who is not....

The link below should help in due course, but it looks as if the list has yet to be posted on the page.

Thank you, as usual some memorable names up there in lights. It didn't disappoint, at least 5 "what!!"s. Congratulations to everyone on the list.

Air Cdre Neil Gammon, the new commandant at Cosford. What a gent, was my SEngo back in the days of 233OCU.

Our JEngo at the time was Flt Lt Dirk Bacon...just goes to show that someone had a sense of humour when posting him in to our illustrious outfit.

Not me, then...

When I see some of those that have been picked up and I haven't I am happy to be leaving - no sour grapes, actualy happy that someone made the decision for me. Time for pastures new.

Accepting the error in duplicating the Gp Capt to Air Cdre and Wg Cdr to Gp Capt...

Please can someone please tell me what the 'Policy Branch' of the RAF is??? (look at the Gp Capt to Air Rank apointments header)

I have heard that ALL wg cdrs are now GD but Policy???? What other Air Rank branches that don't exist anywhere alse are there? Can I join one??? Instant Air Cdre would sort out the pension very nicely.

I used to think I was fairly up to date on this sort of stuff.

Thanks Ratty for telling me about the Plans Branch Which is no more (Now under COS SPP) and only has at best, 2 Air Cdres) but my question still remains What is the Policy Branch as a Career stream that is allowed 12 newly promoted one stars?

Also for discussions sake ! the ratio of this years list is (and I accept the odd one or two out due to time of posting, together with a large amount of approximation)

12 Gp Capt to Air Cdre

28 Wg Cdr to Gp Capt

92 Sqn Ldr to Wg Cdr

181 Flt Lt to Sqn Ldr

So I reckon that the hardest jump is Wg Cdr to Gp Capt (ie approx 30% success rate, whereas all other jumps are approx 50 %) Also a Sqn Leader has a 1 in 6 chance of making it to Gp Capt.

Thoughts???

I think you will find the hardest one to make is Flt Lt to Sqn Ldr depending on the Branch as you don't see the entering number for Flt Lt but I would bet the value is far higher than 400.

I think you'll find that since all wg cdrs and gp capts are now GD - - then all Air Ranks (stand fast doctors, dentists and vicars) are now "The Policy Branch" ..... maybe they always were.......

Whatever the 'Policy' branch is I'm glad I'll never be part of it! - some familiar names there though - I remember working hard for some of those careers - well quite hard....occasionally....alright not really.....
No doubt the Policy branch is full of CEO types?
