One needs to pass the Class 1 audiogram for a JAA IR, even if on a PPL.

There are initial limits, and there are renewal limits which are easier.

I wonder if the CPL/ATPL concession (http://www.caa.co.uk/docs/49/SRG_MED_UK_JAR_CPL_Feb-05.pdf)can be used to get past the initial limits?

The above URL doesn't work; it worked up to a few days ago but the CAA has withdrawn the file; a search doesn't turn it up either. Basically, it contains a chart showing how a holder of any ICAO CPL/ATPL and any ICAO Class 1 medical can obtain a JAA Class 1 medical using the renewal limits. I have the PDF file saved so if anybody wants it, please email me.

The above mentioned concession has apparently been withdrawn. The new page is here (http://www.caa.co.uk/default.aspx?categoryid=49&pagetype=90&pageid=2577)and there is no mention of the ICAO CPL/ATPL + ICAO Class 1 route to a JAA Class 1.
