In another thread, a member asked for advice about professional training material and, out of caution, asked for recommendations by PM because he was concerned not to break PPPRuNe's 'No Free Advertising/Promotion' rule.

For Info -

Making Recommendations:

No problem - provided:
(1) they are genuine independent recommendations - not people promoting a business venture dressed up as 'helpful advice'
(2) the recommendation doesn't include a link to a business website.

Asking for Recommendations:

No problem.
People often ask for advice before buying, for example, ATPL/CPL books (and other forms of training material), manuals, kit etc.

Note:

PPRuNe doesn't allow offers to buy or sell in posts. However, if discussions happen to lead to arrangements between members who are looking to obtain something and members who have no further use for theirs, then whatever private arrangement they reach to their mutual advantage is up to them as far as I'm concerned - provided it's done off forum.
