Associated Press report VIENNA, Austria: A helicopter and a small plane collided and crashed near Vienna, killing both pilots, authorities said.
The two aircraft hit each other at 400 meters (1,300 feet), said Heinz Sommerbauer, spokesman for Austro Control, the alpine country's air safety organization.
The pilot of the helicopter died at the scene and the pilot of the small plane died of his injuries in a hospital, said Stefan Spielbichler, spokesman for Lower Austria's rescue authorities.
Further details were not immediately available. Authorities did not identify the two people involved.

Involved were an Robinson R44 ( OE-XHT ) and a Diamond DA40 ( OE-VPU )

Blades still attached to that bent mast & the cyclic sticking straight up like a crucifix. What a poignant, terrible photograph. The wild blue yonder has become a very busy place.

I've only seen a few photographs of R44 accidents, but I'm surprised to see how much the cabin collapsed. It would appear that the helicopter came straight down, as if the m/r blades stalled. And since the m/r blades are intact, that probably means they weren't rotating on impact.
Regardless, I would have expected to see more of the cabin intact. Am I wrong in thinking this?

Unfortunately the old words "There are no new accidents" are right. Nearly exact the same thing happen some years ago in Germany, R-22 versus light single plane in free airspace. Nobody survived. RIP Allways the same...
