hey all looking for some advise. i have interviews lined up for both comair and american eagle. question: which is the best one to go for and why??? Im thinking comair pays better...but is on tender hooks due to delta problems??

Does either airline have a domicile where you want to live?
If all things are equal I'd bet on Eagle. CMR could be in for more pain with the DAL bankruptcy and restructuring. Either one will be a long wait for upgrade. I'd consider Horizon or SkyWest as well.

what attracted you to these two regionals or did you just apply everywhere and these are the ones who have responded so far?

The reason I ask is because there are certainly better choices out there, unless there is a domicile that you are hoping for like JFK or Boston that you can get with one of these two.

yeah applied to most guys on airlineapps.com. i hear the pay at comair is pretty decent too compared to say colgan or messa. wouldnt mind being based in JFK too. Eagle is attractive in the fact that it seems a steady reliable company, but pay isnt so hot and upgrade take forever (apparently). to be honest i was really hoping for expressjet, a friend of mine flies with them and he loves it there.

Not sure if you've been following events closely but that pay at Comair could change with the DAL bankruptcy.

Expressjet is a great company. I worked there for a little while. Awesome contract and great people. I wouldn't be surprised though if they stop hiring soon. They are still hoping to get a new agreement with another carrier and if that doesn't happen they will have a whole bunch of airplanes that they say they will fly their own brand with. That's a very risky proposition - going it along with regional jets.
American Eagle seems like a very stable place. The problem initially is you won't know your equipment or available domiciles til after you start, but if AA starts recalling soon those upgrade times could shorten considerably. Remember they didn't hire for a long time so there is a big gap between the guys who've waited 6-7 years for an upgrade and the recent spurt of hiring over the last couple of years. I think if they had a domicile that you liked than it would be a good place to be with an eye to a stable future and getting based where you want eventually. YOu just have to be prepared to commute to San Juan for a while if that's where you end up. (Or move there).
I think Comair is in a very precarious position right now. There are a lot of people bidding on their DL flying and we've already seen DL sell off ASA. Who knows. For a new guy starting out in 121 though any of these places could be a good place to start out and remember - if you don't like it keep looking for something better. In the meantime you are gaining valuable experience to help you land the job you really want. Just my opinion.

actually just got a call from expressjet asking if i wanted to interview. so im off to do that next week. really short notice but id take it over the others for sure!

If it's your first "real" interview...arrive ready with all the paperwork requested...no excuses...people fail because of missing document or inaccurate info everytime.

Go West my son, SkyWest is in a hiring boom, upgrade times are quick (in both the BRO and CRJ).

Skywest, Inc (either skywest airlines or ASA) will soon be picking up some of that comair flying. 12 CRJ700s based in Cincinnati will be going to skywest.

very pleasent experience and really a good interview process if you have done your home work. I had over prepared a bit but it helped me get through quicker.
Looks like an awesome comapany to be at and the place is buzzing with new hires and aircraft. cant wait to begin a 'proper' flying job at long long long last :)
