Aeroclub staff say a pilot who landed his light plane at the Launceston airport in northern Tasmania this afternoon, without the front landing gear, executed an almost perfect touchdown.

Experienced pilot Charles Booth was flying his single-engine plane from George Town to Launceston when he realised the landing gear was faulty shortly before midday.

When it could not be fixed, Mr Booth landed the plane about 2pm AEDT, using the aircraft's undercarriage and two rear wheels.

He was not injured in the incident.

Sounds like a worthy effort!

Its a good thing he ddidn't have a passenger - It may have been reported as a "plummeting death dive", "we were terrified", "the worst couple of minutes of my life as the 'plane' lurched and dived through the air". "sheer terror as mechanical failure cripples light aircraft"

And then we'd all have to have a willy waving whinge about how it was reported - yep sure glad we don't have to be doing that

:ok: :E :D :ugh:
