Garmin G1000 in Microsoft Flight Sim X

Just obtained a copy of the new Microsoft Flight Simulator X. Can anyone with experience with an aircraft fitted with a G1000 explain any differences between the genuine thing and the FSX version.

Hopefully I may be in the position to be able to hire a G1000 equiped aircraft on my next visit to the states and was wondering if using the sim was going to help me on a glass cockpit conversion course.

I use a G1000 but unfortunatly dont have flight sim X to compare. The G1000 conversion for me was only 1.5 hours so its not a great deal anyway. Have you used a garmin GPS before? Its the same layout and very easy to use.

Visuals look good but MS not replicating the true functionality? Nothing new there.

I fly with a G1000 - be aware that although they are essentially the same, there are subtle differences with each aircraft (primarily with the autopilot and engine). It would be wise to checkout the actual unit you expect to fly with.

I would recommend using the Garming G1000 PC Trainer for the aircraft (about $3.99 on the garmin website). - Your local training organisation may have a copy. (it does require 3d support!)
