Adobe Reader

I USED to have 'instant recognition' of PDF files using my browser - ie if I clicked on a URL ending in .pdf then Adobe Reader would open the file. For some time now the browser (Mozilla Firefox 1.5.0.7) just stalls and never progresses.
I HAVE Reader 7.0.8 on my hard drive and if I open it and then try to paste the URL I am thwarted as to where to enter it. 'Open' doesn't recognise the URL (unless it is saved to my hard drive) and the inbuilt Yahoo window ALWAYS returns 'not found' when it does an Internet search (AND it strips-out the '//' and '.' characters!).
So HOW do I (re)integrate Adobe Reader with my (Firefox) browser? Do I have to resort to IE6 (which I have but NEVER use)? I'm 'blessed' with the updated version of XP Home.

This info comes from the firefox forum below and specifically from a mod. (So it must work then.)

Try:

1) Type about:plugins in the address bar and find the Adobe Reader entry. Is it there at all and which version is shown?

(G-CPTN if your browser is showing a smilie when you view these instructions between the word about and the word plugins then blame the PPRuNe software. The suggestion is to type about : plugins in your firefox address bar but remove both the spaces either side of the colon.)

2) If the version from above does not match the Reader version you have installed remove the nppdf32.dll from the FF plugins folder.

3) Tools -> Options -> Downloads -> View & Edit Actions and point PDF to the correct reader.

4) Open Reader -> Edit -> Preferences -> Internet -> Check "View PDFs in browser

If still no luck then try the forum (http://forums.mozillazine.org/search.php?mode=results)

Then type and enter the word acrobat in the search forums box and then you should get about 119 results.

It appears you are not alone.

If these links are dodgy then please forgive me as sometimes they work straight away and sometimes they take ages to load. I hope that this helps rather than confuses.

My attributation was still aligned to Reader 5, though the plug-in was Reader 7. :ugh:
It's been like that since I upgraded to the latest Adobe Reader!

Try IE7, it's really good. Better still download the Beta2 version of MS Office 2007 for US$1.5 and you get full .pdf ability. About a 490mb download.
