As I'm sitting here on a sunday afternoon, having read all of the papers and just chilling out I decided to have a browse through good old PP. After reading the various new posts I was intrigued if anyone has heard of ANY announcement in the last year or so that has been GOOD news?

There must be something, somewhere, anything, even a teeny tiny thing? I've moved out to where the grass is greener (well, at least there is grass and not sand) so don't have an axe to grind, I'm just curious. The only (bar non) "news" that I have heard for god knows how long has been bad. Extending OOA

reducing toilet paper to 1 ply (will save .001pence per sheet)

capped actuals
crappy equipment
base closures
manpower reduction
etc
etc
etc

Straining very hard to think of an example to start the thread off, ummmm, errrr, ok, we all got natty blue rucksacks to promote the "corporate RAF image". Oh hang on, that means more totally wasted money on another stupid scheme that achieves nothing

The floated proposal that overseas personnel on ops get exempted from tax?

I fully appreciate the difference between 3 Para and the Air Attache in Washington. However, it cannot be beyond the wit of the civil servants(unless they're working to rule) to exempt the lads/ladesses in the real sh*tholes. I remember the hoo-haa when squadrons deployed in GW1, leaving families behind in Germany. The bean-counters (civil servants by coincidence) tried to stop their Living Overseas Allowance, which wasn't that much anyway. Thankfully it was overturned fairly quicky as 'Go to war, take a pay cut' is not a real motivator.

I'm sorry if it seems I have a problem with civil servants. It's because I have. I also have a problem with most MPs and drug and sex-crazed judges who will retire on full pensions funded by tax-payers.

Sadly, I fear that this proposal will die a death, despite it being championed by the Telegraph.

Tents/bullets(sorry, rounds)/restricted R&R/nowhere to go but duty = no tax. The septics manage it. Why can't we?

So next time a High Court Judge snorts a line and sets up the video to record his 20 second shag, spare a thought, you fatherless, for Tommy Atkins sleeping in his body armour in the stan with inadequate resources, getting attacked on a daily basis. And paying tax for the privilege.

No, I honestly can't think of any good news. And almost everyone I know is working towards leaving the day they qualify for their pension.

Well folks, there are no doubt eager Aussie recruiters out to pick up good trained people the brainless MOD wants to cut. From what I gather the pay is one hell of a lot better too. For whatt the average Brit squaddie gets for his Afghan stint the Aussie pay scales are way ahead.:cool:
