If you could change one thing about the way we do our business what would it be? (you'll have to try harder than JPA bashing though)

You never know someone might think it's a good idea and put it into practise!!!:yuk:

The immediate resignation and suicide of at least two ar$eholes I can think of.....

For starters.

Did a resettlement course this week and the JPA team-leader was in our group. She had the audacity to quote the success of JPA as her greatest achievement!!!!

Obviously the thing I would change is that you're now going to have to do it without me. No hard feelings!

I think some of our own also qualify for not standing up to the two I think you have in mind.

I would introduce job applications.

Rather than pick from a small list let those who think they can do the job, regardless of current rank, apply for it.

You could still have people screened for jobs too but it lower down you might get more choice, especially for cr*p postings.

How about a career profile that matches your posting profile

Desk Officers who has your career in mind and not his own.

What about a cull of the dead wood that is holding up promotion, we could do this though a premium rate phone line and the highest votes get paid off using the money from the phone calls. (been mentioned before as a Big Brother redundancy scheme but I like it)

What about a government that appreciates its Armed Services/Forces

Removal of non-military in key positions, if you haven't done the time you don't have the skills to put us in harm

Rant Mode Off

I'd have to go for stopping the penny-pinching that saves a few pounds at the expense of everyone's morale and living conditions and then targeting the real money losses that come from the poor procurement and contract decisions.

Take the budgets that have been pushed down to the lowest level and bring them back up again. In the bad old days it was seen as salami slicing. All that happens now is these lower level budget holders are doing the same when they are instructed to save money. We now have lots of small salami slicing and the slow crumble of hidden reductions across all areas. We are being nibbled to death by ducks - from the inside.

Oh - un-empowering bloody IPT Leaders too - stop them taking each platform in its own bespoke special custom direction and making us learn a different support solution for each damned one! :ugh:

The Sovs had the right idea. All ACRs read out to ones peers and superiors and voted on whether to accept of reject.

Can't imagine how it works on the way to the stars but amongst the riff raff it would be good fun.

Brown nosers would get votes from the boses and the alternative is beers in the bar for your mates.

Slash the numbers of Typhoon by at least 75%.

Put the money towards up to date AT and Rotary.

Bin the Regt and RAFP. (Army for the former and civilianise the latter).

Reinstate service catering throughout.

A percentage of pilots to be SNCO.

Make sure we have more airframes supporting real ops than we do supporting flying displays and Birthdays flypasts.

Send all movers to China to be shot, cut up and used for spare parts.

Provide an opportunity for subordinates (ie next rank or two down) to have an input into ACR/OJARs. That way brown nosers don't succeed unless they are also good to their troops.

Ensure that the number of Air Rank Officers was in direct proportion to the number of Combat Aircraft.

It already is - at about 20 to 1. Or maybe 30 to 1. Or probably higher. Another aeroplane on the books? Better promote a few more wasters.

I propose City-style mega-bonuses for service personnel when the Services 'make a profit', where 'profit' equals 'Yes, the Armed Forces are doing their very best to defend the UK properly despite not being fully supported by the government' and loss equals the opposite. Right now they are in profit, and have been since duffing up the Spanish Armada.

Get rid of the political mindset that the Armed Forces will automatically dig the politicians out of the hole they have dropped the nation into.

Ensure that the number of Air Rank Officers was in direct proportion to the number of Combat Aircraft.

And the amount of Sqn Ldrs equate to the amount of sqns

and the amount of Grp Capt equate to the amount of Groups (2!)

then fill the holes in the current working ranks with new recruits or pay those left more to retain them longer.

Wyler, Zoom,
From an earlier thread:
There is a formula which enables you to calculate the correct number of airships (N) required to command an air force numbering A aircraft.. ...... ....N = (100/A) x k, where k = a constant value of 1,400, so that where A = 1,000, then. .. . N = (100/1,000) x 1,400 = 140.. .. .Please feel free to calculate the value of N for the RAF of your choice.

I never found it in the RAF - but I left in 1973! However, the civil service toyed with the idea of 360 degree reporting just before I retired 3 years ago. I encountered it on a few training courses and found it quite useful. Unfortunately I think the higher grades found it too truthful.
