Hi guys,

What a blast from the past, names here that I have not heard for many, many years, and all of them lost touch with.

I happen to know a lot of these names because I was a humble loader then Ops guy with National Airways 1988-89, then left under a cloud. I still look back on those days at SEN as damn good times, like (I think) you guys, as a great grounding for a career to come. I have flown with a few of the names mentioned, RHS due single crew those days, some long-haul, BGY-SEN (with Ford) in a BE90 against headwinds in daylight (just), bloody long haul at just under 4 hours! (200Kg of DHL). SEN-SVG-FBU-SEN with Sarkis on my 20th Birthday, just to offload newspapers by hand from the 200, up to me waist in snow. SEN-AMS-SEN with Kemp, great days. Alas, despite a good grounding, I do still wish I had chosen a real job. I was bitten by the aviation bug at National, and despite various chances to get out I have remained in Ops, determined to stick at it until I get it right, if you can forgive the stolen quote.

From the groundie side, if I may, Andy Mac I believe is now a Pilot, flying (or looking forward to last I heard many moons ago) BE20s, Trigger was at Maersk with me ‘till he left for Emerald prior to them going bump.
Steve Clarke was at Maersk, now believed at BACON. I have now gone full circle and stay up all night these days, back in box hauling Ops, with one of our NAA customers, something to do with Dropping it, Hiding it or Losing it! Now we fly 100’s of tonnes in 757s, but at my end it is all the same principle. At VB with me were Dave Warner and Steve Moody, both moving on prior to redundancy.

Other unforgettable names:

Nick ‘what slots do you want for tonight’ Whale
T***** El* Sh***y (Got one for a Cortina). Last seen in the Midlands. (Can’t say any more)
Russ Gammell
Godwin Ottobo (? Spelling)
Eddie Stevens (Dobbin?)
Christope, The other Cypriot
Joe Cox
Pete Kemp (I think with Air Contractors)
Perry, can’t remember the Surname, known as ‘the prop’
Bob Bud
Nigel, (I think I still owe you 60 quid for a mark2 Escort) Freeman

And a shed load Shorts drivers, again sorry about the pun.

They were good times, bet if the money was the same as now we would all go back, wouldn’t we…………..?

What ever happened to Simon Case and Andy Green?

G-CLAW, if you are who I think you are, I lost touch with you a long while ago after a hard drive fail, big time. Lost the lot! Like to catch up again, now EMA based so on your doorstep next time you do your sim. No Noddy vans or stop signs promise mate, just a beer.

Anyone that has a good photo of G-OEMS (NCA/SABENA colours) please PM me, would love to commission a painting of SN972 departing SEN, I put the seats in and took them out enough, she is still the best looking BE20.

Fly safe, Bored.

Hi guys,
It is always nice to think back to those National Airways days. I have some fond memories of those days. I still fly for KLM on the 744 out of AMS ,but live in Canada still married to the same woman with 3 kids (27/26/17). Sarkis is flying for Emirates on the 777. I am happy to read that we all did well. Amazing to see how we are living scattered around the globe.
I see that Geoff moved to Singapore, a place I have spend many lay-overs.
And I understand that Lindsay is till living in Southend . I am sure we all have lots of tories to tell of what happened during all those years since. It is always nice to stay in contact.

Chatting to one of our guys, believe Fordie still at 449 ******* *****, hell of a place that was................ Good times there, till T**** got me saddled up, hey ho. Glad things worked out for you mate, B744 a long way from the BE90 and the midnight departure call to 'National ops'. Guess you still fly a lot of nights, just different time zones................
Fly safe Guy.
RJ,
Did Andy get Training Capt on the BE20? Last time I spoke to him, twas on the cards.
