Spotters aircraft registration books

Sure it must have been asked before but cant find any information on it

Can anyone give me a idea of the best Spotters aircraft registration book to buy and where to get hold of one

There are so many its Difficult to know where to start , firstly
you need to decide what exactly your intereste is Mil CIVIL BIZ ? Or ALL
The first place you could start is the Ever populer IAN ALLAN series MILITARY AIRCRAFT MARKINGS . CIVIL-AIRCRAFT MARKINGS and for BIZ jets BIZ & PROPJET , Avail at most
good bookshops . or Buy one of theEnthusiests mags
read the Adverts in there .
Another way is Ask your local Spotters what they Reccomend you could
also use the WWW to Look up registrations there are hundreds of sites out there for the majority of Registers some official some by Spotters
there are also Hundreds of Spotters mailing lists on YAHOOGROUPS
and Googlegroups join one and get hopefully all the help you need
Hours and hours of reading on WWW to be had one way to find
more info is enter the Reg in GOOGLE Most you will get no problem

As Gulf4uk says, it depends on what you require and the level of detail that you want.

For civilian aircraft, if it's just the type of aircraft and who it belongs to that you want to know, then the annual Civil Aircraft Markings book published by Ian Allan is the way to go. It is available in most good bookshops. The Military Aircraft Markings by the same publisher is pretty much the only game in town for military aircraft serial numbers.

But if you require more detail such as the aircraft's c/n and previous identities etc, etc, then you would need to splash out a bit more money and get the UK Civil Aircraft Registers by either Air Britain or LAAS. You would need to go to somewhere more specialised. PM me if you want some suggestions on where to buy them.

Googling usually works if you type the registration of the aircraft you've seen.

One thing you need to remember any registration book you
buy will be very out of date almost at once so the bit about
LAAS is very relevant they and other groups do a monthly
Magazine with Register Updates. Magazine Aviation news
does a mounthly Register Review which is very Usefull
But things change Daily so use WWW for updates .
Things like Deliverys are best found on www most
spotters would be more than Happy to suggest a website
or give you the details Required so join a group .

Hey there,

Personally I wouldn't recommend going down the book route if you want updated sightings, because it is out of date as soon as you get it. I would suggest subscribing to a spotting database. Personally I use FreeBird (www.freebirddb.com (http://www.freebirddb.com)) because it is cheap, friendly and kept right up to date, but there are others. See what suits you best.

If it's still there try the aviation hobby shop, West Drayton London they used to have everything that you would want.

Aviation Hobby Shop is still there (well it was in November) and just as bulging at the seams as when I last visited it some twenty years ago!
