I have just measured my pilots flight case, it meets the width and length but is 4cm too wide at 20cm as opposed to 16CM
Does this cause a problem? I am flying from the UK to Germany
Has anyone been able to use their pilots case (as a pax)??
TIA

Don't bet on being able to take it on as handbaggage. Some of my colleagues deadheading have been oK with their briefcases but others travelling as commercial pax, off duty, even if in uniform, have been told to "check" their briefcase.

The other morning, I went to the crew room (airside) with my flight case... passed through security without a problem. After the flight, I had to go back to the crew room to fax the voyage report to Ops. Wasn't allowed through with my flight case as it was too big. The next morning, into the crew room again, no problem with the flight case.

It's a bloody farce. I can not get my head around people who think my bag is too big or that my bottle of water is a bomb when they know I'm about to go and sit at the controls of an airliner. This world is full of numpties. :ugh:

... 4cm too wide at 20cm as opposed to 16CM ...You almost certainly will not get this through a pax screening point at a BAA airport. The ones that I've been to since 10 August have all had new size gauges with hard wooden sides. 1 cm too wide will not get in, let alone 4 cm.

But I don't recall any sizers at LCY, so non-BAA airports may be less draconian.

You won't get through at MAN, they are increasingly strict about size.

Made to check-in mine everytime at MAN and LGW when positioning both in and out of uniform, although BA do provide you with a fetching "burberry" style carry on bag for items of value!!

Globaliser. I'm just back from LCY (to EDI) and not only do LCY have sizers but, when I confessed that I had not used it to check the size of my briefcase, I was escorted back to the sizer and had to demonstrate that my case did fit with room to spare.
