Half hour or so ago one was flying to and fro above Candoo towers, not unusual around here but this one was giving it accompanying full volume sirens.

Never heard by us before so is it unusual or what?

Just curious

Also used on other occasions as a prefix to PA messages, eg descriptions of missing kids; performs the same attention getting role as the "now hear this" of many a movie scene.

A bird’s eye view of the city resulted in the quick detection of a house fire on Tuesday night.
Shortly before 7:45 p.m., officers in the Abbotsford Police helicopter spotted a column of smoke coming from a home as they were patrolling in the area of Clearbrook Road and South Fraser Way.
When officers got closer, they saw flames on the rear deck of a home in the 31900-block of Coral Avenue, said Michelle Jackson of Abbotsford Fire Rescue.
Abbotsford Police Sgt. Brett Crosby-Jones said there was no movement near the house, and pilot Dean Russell, who was travelling with tactical flight officer Const. Mark Gartner, circled the helicopter lower and activated the helicopter’s siren to notify residents.
“Neighbours out walking and in their houses came to see why the police helicopter was so low and why the siren was on,” said Crosby-Jones. “Those neighbors were able to see the smoke billowing from the back yard and they then ran to the house and pounded on the door. Luckily the occupants were just in the process of leaving their house, as they too were curious about the loud siren in their neighborhood.” Residents used a garden hose to keep the flames at bay, and nearly had it extinguished when fire crews arrived.
