Ok, so it's not a real C-17. Check this out for a smart toy! ....

This 1/9th scale radio-controlled C-17 model was built in the United Kingdom. To date it has about 20 flights. It was built as the centerpiece of a 15 program television series produced in the UK. for the Home and Leisure satellite TV channel.

Built with the aid of three friends, it took 1 year to build and is powered with 4 Jetcat P-120 turbines with a total thrust of 108 lbs. The models weighs over 250 lbs fuelled, and carries 12.5 liters (3.3 US gallons) of 95% kerosene and 5% turbine oil fuel. Other details include 5 Futaba PCM receivers, 16 battery packs (93 cells), 20 Futaba servos, on board air compressor, electro/pneumatic retracts, etc.

Wingspan is 20 feet 8 inches, and the top of the fin is 74 inches (6 feet 2 inches) above the ground. Takeoff weight is 264 lbs. The rear cargo doors open and they drop an r/c jeep on a pallet, as well as 2 freefall r/c parachutists.

The model also has smoke systems both of the inboard turbines, and uses 2.4 GHz data link to provide real-time data to a laptop computer on the ground while in flight, this data includes airspeed, turbine RPM, EGT, fuel consumption, etc. It is covered in fiberglass and epoxy resin. Built mainly from balsa and ply, with many glass and carbon fiber moldings to reduce weight.

This C-17 Globemaster III is one of the largest jet models in the world today! Complete with retractable landing gear and pneumatically operated flaps

Holding short over here in the U.S...i witnessed a real C17 do that....
it was doing circuits and each landing was so frightning my student and i gasped.... I think that C17 I saw needed a hard landing inspection and a full D check.....me thinks the cadet in the real one should have practiced on the R/C first! :}

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaargh!

I could put my radio controlled tank in the back...

The VNE on those things is generally determined by the amount of flutter yonder little Futaba servo will put up with...

Not necessarily . I've got a model called a Magnum which does in excess of 200mph and that uses cheapo 5 quid servos. It's all in the linkages and the aerodynamics of the trailing edge :)
Off to fix the plaster holding my glasses together :E

So not at all like the RAF one then... don't think we do any of that stuff with ours (or who ever really owns them:confused: )

One hopes that, if you do, the jeep reaches the ground before the meat bombs!

Aerial delivery from the RAF C17 is specifically forbiden in the contract - spoil sports.
Having spent 5 years of my life getting RIBs to fall out the back of K Hercs reliably, my first thoughts on standing in the back of a C17 for the first time was "Ummm LRIC". Well a lad can dream, can't he?

Presumably this no longer applies once we own them.

Another fine example of how not to land a C-17. This one is real!
Brings back memories of 99Sqn in Kabul....

By the look of the distance to go on the 'runway' and the TE flap setting on the model, looks to me like it's taking off!

Cheers, FD :uhoh:

Roll instability due to flight control software saturation?

I hear the Remote Control fraternity is soon to be delivered some bad news from CAA etc on the 'legality' of some of these heavyweight 'Aircraft'. When is a microlight not a microlight. When is a UAV not an aircraft etc....

Nice model though. I liked the model B-52 crash myself.
