Read in Computer Active www.computeractive.co.uk (http://www.computeractive.co.uk) magazine today that Samsung have made a mobile PC with no moving parts. All solid state. It's called a Q1 and the mechanical hard disc is replaced with a 32 Gb flash memory. It's being sold exclusively by Expansys and is £1,399 - £600 more than the mechanical Q1. URL is www.expansys.com (http://www.expansys.com)

So here's the first get around for your bags being bounced around if you have to stick it in the hold. It unfortunately does not come with a third party total destruct atomiser which will see off any light-fingered bagage handler, but, that may come in the future. If it does of course then there will be a Health and Safety fee of £1,000,000 to pay if somebody gets injured trying to lift it!

It's not the hard disk getting bounced that worries me - most disk heads are mechanically withdrawn and locked from the platters at shutdwon. My concern is the screen - no matter how much you protect your precious PC if the bag it's in is at the bottom of the pile, then the crush pressure is probably enough to break the screen :\

At least, for now, we can take our laptops on board with us.
