I remember a Vulcan B2 that landed wheels up at Finningley in 1965. That also couldn't happen because of all the cockpit warnings etc - but it did! Apparently the crew were not aware of the wheels up until they couldn't get it to taxy at a decent speed. Captain's name escapes me but he was the father of my best mates missus.

From what I read from someone stationed on Diego Garcia (where the event took place) the a/c was fine and didn't have any major structural damage

I would imagine the engines ingested a decent amount of runway FOD however....

there was a good quality video clip of the 'belly up' by the F111 on here almost as soon as it had happened.
excellent piece of flying, especially if straight out of the OCU...:D

Anybody else notice the photgrapher's name in the 'Wheel falls of F111' story? Damien Dunlop! (Made up, shurely!)
