The Grauniad (http://www.guardian.co.uk/uk_news/story/0,,1855388,00.html).. When did he become a Harrier mate then?

Flick knife to puff jet, Thrust to JCB. Do I get the idea he´s slowing down in his old age?

IIRC he hasn't converted to puff jet - he was OC Ops at Witt but not flying apart from the odd back seat trip.
I stand by to be corrected!

You are indeed correct sir.

Thoroughly nice chap is Dead Dog.

Cheats!! A JCB without a shovel is just not a JCB as we know it. And if I should see this thing out on a local salt flat I shall stick in front of it at 15 mph and stop it from passing. My revenge will be sweet!

He's broken it...:ooh:
The record, that is...

Just watched the video clip on the BBC web site, and I have to say that that is the sweetest sounding diesel engine I have ever heard. In fact, it sounded distinctly Merlin like as it drove by.

Hmm, I see they've changed the clip and it now sounds like, errr, well, a souped up JCB.

Remember seeing one of these souped-up JCBs 20 years (or so) ago, also with 1,000 horses or thereabouts. The shovel was retained, and contained an innocuous-looking 55-gal tank filled with C-Stoff or similar.

Well, it has TWO engines! They sound an awful lot better now than they did just a few weeks ago on its first run. (A couple of us were lucky enough to be there and I have the first engine run in my camera) ;)

Well, at least we can still do something! Well done DD and all the team. Now, how about 400 mph, ???????????

 Just seen it run on Sky News. Well done chaps - I know how hard they've worked on this!

I have been told they will try for a higher speed tomorrow if possible. 350 mph maximum is the likely limit. Unfortunately, the tyre speed rating limits mean the car won't be run to its full speed potential (after all, they are only 15 x 5.00 inch tyres).

And not a sign of black exhaust smoke! :ok:

350mph! I'd be more impressed if he could dig a trench at that speed.

Well done DD.

Would be happier if it had a variable geometry shovel!

No matter how fast your JCB is, I bet between 0700 and 0900 and again at 1600 to 1730 you have to turn it over to some bumpkin who can't go above 30!:}

Congratulations to the team. I'm just off to the States so gives me something to crow about.

I'd love to know why he is called Dead Dog.

Sweet diesels? You should have heard the Audis at Le Mans - well you would have to listen hard, they were eerily quiet, especially when everything else was screaming its heart out...

Twas the best wind up on a new Sqn jockey I had seen in ages.
Ah, memories.

Well done to the Dog and his team.
Regards to any 19 (F) (or 92!!)

Why is he called Dead Dog?

dolphinops
31st Aug 2006, 09:37
The Sqn (spoof) "adopted" a Police dog. I think the CO's wife chose it or something. (Not)
As new bloke he fed it, walked it, etc. for quite some time.
Then one fateful day he gets a call to see the Boss to explain how the dog got "poisoned".
To make a long story very short!

That's how I remember it

Could be the last?

Does it run on Red!!!!! Well done:ok:

ShyTorque
2nd Sep 2006, 11:29
It runs on normal diesel oil so yes, is the answer!

If higher speed rated tyres could be found, next time it would be able to run in 6th gear instead of 5th! 366mph, it's best speed so far, was as fast as they dare go.

To put it in perspective, I understand that the space shuttle lands at about 220/230 mph...
