I've just been reading my copy of September's Australian Aviation, in particular about a report on tha latest RIAT.
In the report, there is a photo of a PR9, with accompanying text which says that the PR9 is "...the last airshow appearance of the by now retired RAf Canberra PR9".

I realise it is 23 years since I left the UK, and even longer since my tour with 13Sqn,. but I hadn't heard that the venerable machine was retired from duty altogether.

Can anyone enlighten me?

Best regards,

TheNightOwl.

Whilst their operational life with the RAF is certainly over the new civilian owners may have different ideas. 3 Went out to tender and Delta Jets will be taking care of them to an airworthy standard until it is determined if a civilian operator will continue to fly them (someone else may have an update on this???). 1 has gone as a gate guard.

There was a post previously, try here: http://www.pprune.org/forums/showthread.php?t=237076

A magnificant aeroplane, I really hope we see them skooching around for a few more years yet.... ;)

My thanks for your replies and links, they invoked very pleasant memories of my 3 years on 13, especially the detachments to Cyprus, Kenya (2), Mauritius, Bahrein, Singapore, Sierra Leone, to name a few.

Decidedly the end of an era, I only hope the decision is made to keep a couple of them airworthy.

Kind regards,

A rather lonely XH169 parked on the spectacle at the back of Alpha Dispersal last week.

My understanding is that 2 might be going to Thunder City and one might continue to operate (UK Based?) in a mapping, survey type of role
This link http://www.airsceneuk.org.uk/hangar/2006/canberraend/canberra.htm
says that the airframes flown in to Kemble were XH 131, 134 and 135 so where has XH169 come from?

XH169 is to be Marham's latest gate guard - she was at the recent Families' Day engineless.
