Sure it was Farnborough related, but I didn't know there were any still flying. Which was it and what's it's story?
I saw it over Ripley at about 3pm, at about 2,000 heading NE. It then did a wing waggle to about 15 degrees each way over Wokingish.
Sounded lurvely.

I wasn't aware of anything like that at Farnborough but one or two Air Atlantique DC6s have been lurking around Dunsfold for some time. I don't believe there is a flying DC4 in the UK, but would be glad if someone said I was wrong!

Being as you mention DC4's, does anyone recall the immaculate DC4 flown from South Africa by Flippie Vermeulen and his daughter for-- I think-- the Heathrow Anniversary flypast?
I had all that taped, but have misplaced the tape, and I am sure it was on that programme that there was footage of Captain Vermeulen making a featherlight touchdown with the DC4 on the undulating grass at Middle Wallop airfield!
Anyone confirm, or tell me the grey matter is addled!

There was only one DC-6 left at Dunsfold last week so very likely the one that was seen was the one that departed.
Hopefully find out which one is left soon.

It certainly came from the Dunsfold direction, so that would make sense.
Is Dunsfold where they film the " Top Gear" programme?
One programme I have stopped watching because I think Clarkson and his cohorts get more childish as time passes.

Yes, Dunsfold is the place...
In this series You could see the 747 and the DC-6's in the background. As for Your comments about the prog... I for one, totally agree !!.

Thanks, M5DND. The only other place I could visualise as being the location was possibly Bruntingthorpe, however I think they blew up the 747 there doing some blast-containing luggage container tests.
If your handle here means you are a licensed radio amateur, then I too hold a UK callsign, but sadly I have not been active for a number of years.

Talking DC-4s,does anyone know if the two flown into North Weald some years ago are still there? I believe they were there for filming,but never heard of any departures.
Edited: I always seem to ask the question,then decide to look for the answer myself,and came up with this extract from the Air-Britain 2006 fly-in site--------l
'Occupying one of T-2 Hangars are Aces High Ltd who offer hangarage and is well known for its film support work. The latter often provides a variety of types at North Weald for film work and currently present among the collection are two vintage DC4s awaiting the making of a film about the Berlin Airlift.'
So,they are still there! God knows if that film will ever be made!

It wasn't easy due to the way they were parked so the snaps aren't brilliant.
The DC4 was always my favourite aeroplane, with Beech 18 a close second. However, the Catalina is getting mighty close and if a hoped-for ride in one "down-under" comes off that may just swing it!

The DC-6 you spotted was Air Atlantique's G-APSA or G-SIXC both have been at Dunsfold being filmed for the new bond movie as part of the 'Miami Airport' cargo area. Possibly last time they will ever fly, so hopefully plenty of people saw them doing there various beat-ups around the place. I believe departure out of Dunsfold was worth a viewing with the DC- 6 cleaned up 240kts with flight deck looking up at the tops of the lamp posts! If you've seen the lamp posts on the runway during 'Top Gear' you will appreciate the height!
Oh and for the comments about Top Gear.... how old do you sound!!!! Go get the slippers and dressing gown out, i am sure we can warm you a mug of hot cocoa!!

There's probably more adults on this forum than Top Gear watchers! If I wanted to watch kids programmes,I'd switch to CBBC! I think we should have a poll--Do you think Clarkson is a kid!

Sorry to hear that the DC6's are to be grounded. I hope you are going to "preserve" them as such, maybe in ground running condition? Not really in the nature of Air Atlantique group to scrap anything as nice as a big piston liner!
You "Top Gear" comments noted, and I assume you saw their "white van man" antics on the 30th? Actually things like that, the cars converted into boats thing, and the caravan/car combo jumping over caravans are very funny, but I thought it was a motor show, ie testing cars you and I cannot afford, etc?
Dont get me wrong, I find the show hilarious, but it has morphed from what it was.
....Anyway, I prefer Vikki Butler-Henderson to Clarkson & Co, :) :)
BY the way atlantique, can you have a look at my "daks over central London" topic on this forum, and come up with a name for me? The founder of AA in Jersey, and possibly the connection with Doncaster Aero Club, was that I think he was previously the CFI before founding AA.
...but being so old, and covered in cocoa and slippers I am probably wrong....:confused:

Just driving past Deenethorpe yesterday and I can say that G-SIXC is nestled there, next to the fuel tank.
I was going to ask if anyone knew what it was doing there, but thought better of it after reading this thread. But in spite of that, do we know if it's going to remain there?

G-SIXC flew from Dunsfold to Deenethorpe for basically long term storage, I am unsure of the future of SIXC, and really hope that it is kept in an airworthy state, realistically, i dont think it will though.. I am unsure of the ownership of SIXC, whether it has changed or not.. As Always with Air Atlantique, anything in the future is possible.. My greatest hope is that they keep at least one DC6 on the classic fleet and keep all of my toes and fingers crossed that one day i may possibly have the chance of getting to fly it!!
Was a sad day when we left SIXC in the corner of the airfield at deenethorpe..

Another forum suggests there will be 'developments' concerning SIXC, hope they are positive. If you were involved with its parking, would not the ownership of the a/c be somewhere in the cockpit?:confused:

Well, In a broad assumption, i would say that the ownership has not changed hands, although nothing is certain.. im pretty sure nothing was changed in the tech log, and again this is only an assumption, the 3rd assumption is that AAQ owned SIXC outright in the first place.. who knows, but im wouldnt like to try and interprit the doings of the company and be completely wrong.. Looking at it in Black and white, we operate the a/c, maintain it and it has our name plastered on it, as well as G-INFO confirming it, so on yet another assumption.. it is still AAQs for the time being, but who knows what is in store, even the crew dont know (or didnt last time i saw them).. We can only wait and hope i guess. never know, i mean deenethorpe is a good, big airfield.. maybe a few flights a year or some sort of museum/memorial to the DC6 or classic a/c in general..

I think the word 'Chartered' on G-INFO means it ISN'T owned! Correct me if I am wrong!
Edited to say that G-INFO also says that there is a change of C of A detail in progress,but this could be just a C of A renewal,as it currently states expiry on 04/04/2005!
