I am not sure if this will stay but it is worth it if it only helps a few people out.

One of the guys who I dive with has set up a phone company called UK Forces with allsorts of deals (both mobile and fixed line) for people going to the sandpit and also their families who are left behind. Graham is ex-army himself so knows the hassles which guys and girls currently face.

The link is http://www.ukforces.net/ and follow the links from there. Now I know this may appear as advertising, which I suppose it is, but with all the people disappearing to warmer climes I thought you might like a look-see.

Just to re-iterate, I am not involved in the company, just thought people might like a link to somewhere which does a proper forces discount not the c**p in the UK Forces Discount book.

Its a tadge pricey and not as good a deal as Talk Talk....or Sky for that matter...or even Orange... Why would a serviceman want to waste his money on this ?

and although Im not a prude (far from it) I dont think it is very professional for a company such as this to have photographs such as those on their web site.....

Agreed, it is pricey.

What is this site anyway?? A phone site? or a site offering Thai brides/dating/Sex site? It does seem that your friend is "offering all sorts of deals"

Suggest your dive buddy does one or the other, phones or dating! The site put me off straight away.
Free advice for what it is worth.

This is the best site I know, everybody at work uses it, check out the 12mths free deals. Most of us have had free mobile phones and minutes, with line rental cashback for years. No catches just got to makesure that you meet the deadlines for cashback, cancel after 12mths, transfer number to new 12mths free deal. Is a bit of hassle worth £300 a year? X no of family members.

Can you explain what you meant by the deadlines for cashback and how the deal works?

I have used a numer of companies over the yeaars but they all have a similar theme, currently I have an O2 contract through Dial a phone, 250 free crossnet minutes + 50 texts a month + free phone. I have to do a direct debit for line rental £30 per month.

After 2nd month of contract I send them my bill as proof of continuing with contract, they credit my account with £45.
After 3rd month, send bill they credit my account with £60
After 6th month, send bill, they send me a cheque for £75
After 9th month, send bill, they send me cheque for £ 90
After 12 month, send bill they send cheque for £90

So after 12 months, paid out £360, got back £360, used an average of 200 mins a month and a few texts, still got the phone. Just about to sign up with Vodaphone for 400 free mins and similar deal, I can transfer my number will sell the new phone as soon as it arrives for £80 as am happy with current one.

The cashback is an incentive from the networks to get new customers, they hope that you stay with them!!
All my family have a similar deal, you run a slight risk that the company goes bust and you get no cashback but are tied into a 12mth contract, but this has never happened to me or anybody I know and Ive been doing it for years.
Because we have so many free minutes we hardly ever use the BT phone so save again there.

If you are thinking of using one of these deals when you have priced the phone and company the cashback is usually buried in their terms and conditions which are usually on the website, if not I suggest you use another company, there are plenty to choose from.

Its a bit like introductory discounts on car insurance, but better.

I like http://www.mod.mobiles4everyone.com (http://www.mod.mobiles4everyone.com/index.asp) because it does most of the searching for you.

Sorry forgot to say:
I have a 28day period to submit each bill, or I lose that portion of the cashback, so it does require a little disipline, but what I do is on receipt of new phone and contract prepare all my cashback letters and put in a folder ready, put reminders in the diary, wait for bills to arrive and stick in post when due. I use recorded delivery just in case but have never had a problem.

Best deal I ever had, £30 a month, 400 free mins, all cashback paid after 3 months into contract, called up 02, changed tariff to £15 a month with 200 free mins profit(had to wait for 6mth point) profit £90. Called all my mates to tell them what a clever bugger Id been, cost nought.

Thanks for that. My contract is due up shortly and I think I will be following your example.
