Hi,

I am wanting to do a JAA ATPL. (I am 18 at the moment). I live in the UK.

I am completely deaf in my left ear (since i was born - so there is no problems with balance etc and I no that i need to turn my head to hear what people say) and my hearing in my right is 110%. Do you think this will cause problems to get to my dream job?

Thanks in Advance

I am pretty sure you need hearing in both ears, even for a Class 2 medical. I suggest calling the CAA Medical Department at Gatwick before investing any money in training. They will give you the answer you need

You might want to have a look here http://www.jaa.nl/licensing/manual_civil_aviation.html

The appropriate section (Chapter 14) seems to suggest that a person with unilateral deafness may be considered for certification. However, to second what Callsign Kilo said, the best thing to do would be to call the CAA and ask them directly. Hope that helps.
