I have done some online applications and a lot of times they ask you how much IFR time you have.

Do they mean time in instrument condition (IMC) or flights according to Instument flight rules (IFR flightplan).

Kalimera Jimmy. They want to know how many hours you have under the instrument flight rules (planned) not necessarily in IMC. You can break up the hours though if you want them to know how many hours you have in actual IMC. Most pilots I know like to break up their hours in job applications, e.g. "100 IFR hours (30 in actual IMC)". -Good luck with the job hunting! :)
