Hi guys i'm considering doing my helicopter commercial license and I'm interested in pursuing an S-76 type rating.
Where in the US or Canada might I be able to acquire such a rating and at what cost.

Flight Safety International in West Palm Bay Florida is the place most companies send their guys.

I have no idea of the cost though, but if I remember right it can all be done in the simulator - you never need to fly the "real thing".

"I'm considering doing my helicopter commercial" . . .

Does this mean you don't have your CPL(H) yet ? If so, perhaps better to get the license then see what ratings would suit the available work ?

Does anybody know when will it be working, and if it will be available to perform Skill Test to obtain the type ratin to endorse it to a JAR licence?

Initial rating at FSI is 45.000$ plus checkflight. Just mail them for a quote.

Is it just me or is the premise if this post ridiculous.

Someone who is "considering" doing there commercial talking about a S76 rating.

Nobody seems to want to learn their trade any more, there always in a damn hurry, I would understand if it was about a 206 rating.

Apologies if I have missed the point

He's probably Chief Pilot somewhere now. ;)

I fly with guys who went straight from a Bell 47 onto an offshore role equipped S76C++ at about 250hours.:D

Although the initial post is old, I recovered it because the title was right for my questions.

So please, could anyone tell me where it's possible for an EASA/JAR licence to perform a Skill Test for the S76 TR?

thanks in advance

You can't get an S76 type rating in the US. Type ratings are given only for heavy aircraft, >12,500 lb max certificated weight. Flight safety would certainly sell you a course, but there is no type rating to be given. You'll need to get that somewhere in JARland.

FWIW, the Helicopter Foundation International ran a silent auction at Heli Expo this year where one of the auctioned items was a two week S76 Initial course donated by CAE Simuflite. Stated value was $33,500; the bids were running far below this amount so my guess is that someone got at deal.

@Milo C: You may certainly get a SK76 type rating on your EASA/JAR license through FSI in West Palm Beach, FL. They are an UK CAA approved TRTO. Not sure whether they got a new CAA designated examiner though, after the previous one left.

The sim in ABZ should be certified by the end of May 2013.

have you tried Starspeed/premier in Backbushe? I did my initial there a while back and they were very good.
