Lets test you more.........Mig15 Korean war.....Are you ready for this Q: Why did the F86 pack a less 'punch firepower' than the Mig15?

Moot point; I believe the peter had 6 x 0.5 in machine guns but the Mig had a couple of cannon; one 27mm and one other slightly smaller.

Your right about the 86 but your half wrong with the Mig15 cannon.

Better with airframes than cockpits, but when I first looked at it I thought the pic of the Guardian was actually a modified fire-bombing Avenger. Any commonality between the two?

It's part of the boiler from the 4-6-4 Count Wolfgang Gresley, an early German design of steam powered aircraft that (obviously) was not a great success.

Onan, you were close on more than one count. In fact, it is from the Pennsylvania 65-00-00 class, designed by Elvis Gresley.

Come come! Send me a PM and tell me what a naughty boy you must have been. :-)

Was this the Vickers Varsity T.1 Reg no. WL633
At RAF Manston on the 23 Jan 1958 that drifted off the runway on landing, collided with snowbanks and burst into flames.
Mel

Mel, right aircraft type, but wrong serial and location.

It is in fact Varsity T1 WJ915 (http://www.landair.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/wfu.htm)and Arrived at RAF Northolt 21/08/75, and was burnt out on fire dump by 10/78.

Why do we have to set fire to so many aircraft, when the Defence Fire Service only seem to average 1 crash every few years, couldn't they practice on cars.

Think of how many interesting and rare aircraft have perished so that Fireman Sam can have a certificate.:ugh: .

MReyn24050

Thanks for that. I couldn't agree more, looking at the Manston Aerial Photograph on the "What, where, when" thread and seeing all those great aircraft and knowing that most of them were destroyed to "teach" Fire Crews how to fight an aircraft fire is very sad. I think at Heathrow they now have a purpose built hulk representing a DC10 to train on.

No cactii at Boscombe Down, so it can't be a TSR2 :)

The gear's wrong for an A7. With that flat-sided fuselage and the slab tailplane, I think it is an A5 Vigilante
