Thanks for the impromptu airshow over central London on Monday. :D

I had a sneaky day off work and was v.excited to see my first Merlin in flight, followed sometime later by a 3 ship flight of Lynx, and then later a Puma.....then the mighty Wokka on Tuesday.....what a treat! :ok:

Any idea what the occasion was?

Celebrating giving independence to the Colonies - or one of them! Happy Independence Day!

Sorry laddie....it was not "given"....we kicked you lot and yer German hired help out and sent you home. Brave men behind rifles and bayonets stood for freedom. That is why we are an "ex-colony" vice a "former colony".:=

We do thank you for the birthday greeting!:D

Not without the help of the French you didn't. Lets hope the French take revenge on the divers tonight for their old enemy/allie*

*Swap every 100 years or so.:bored:

Oooooh, seems like a bit of a raw nerve there, SASless.......

If we managed to get rid of all those irritating Colonial types with poor senses of humour, then huzzah for the good ole U S of A's birthday!

Just don't accuse us of re-writing history on this one! Of course we have to remember we let about 5,000 of the Germans stay behind....and you lot welcomed the French to Canada.

So what's the difference between an 'ex-colony' and a 'former colony', SASless?

One is out of fashion and the other is the first of the two ..... why do we in the U.S. of A. have to always teach you British how to understand your own language?

Zoom,

Your ancestors had the same problem in understanding the difference.

During the Second War of Independence we pointed it out quite clearly to you at New Orleans. Since then your military only comes here as invited guests.

Once the child has broken free of the apron strings, and proved their independence, he tends to make belligerent statements to reinforce the situation. The parent has accepted the coming of age, and nods approvingly, yet the child continues to assert his immaturity.

Twas ever thus. 230 years is only 2.3 times the predicted life of the BUFF!!

But hey, I understand. And I still love the US. Really, I do.

Not an observation anyone would be likely to make about your military, however.

Take that back or SASless will dispatch a cruise missile from his personal inventory (all U.S. citizen are given 10 cruise missiles a year for just this sort of situation) with an appropriate warhead to 'An aerodrome somewhere in England':E

SASless

Ever since the local invention of Saltwater Tea in Boston one night, there has been no Tea Tax paid.:E

Rich,

In order to lob a strike on Beags....one would have to target a home for Geriatrics in Brighton...say about time for the morning meds! You do recall ol' Beags soloed in Boxkites.

So many Americans, so many myths...
Revere didnt say "the British are coming", he said "the regulars are coming"....'cos Revere was British as was George Washington.....Washington himself was one of the greatest Britons ever.......not an American.
Or was Washington one of the worlds most infamous traitors? Like Lord Haw Haw or Judas Iscariot? All a question of interpretation
Britain was never defeated by Americans during the War of Independence. Britain was defeated by British Colonials aided and abeted by the foul and most foreign French......the French are therefore, Americans oldest nearest and dearest allies...they even gave the USA a lovely little stature to put in the harbour.
Gosh so much to say and so little time to say it in.
All this and more goes down a treat in American bars......"drinks all round if any American in here tonight knows who Admiral Lafayette is" normally is a safe bet downtown Boston
But Happy Birthday anyway

I love the way our trans-pond cousins (which, in a vain attempt at being related to aviation, would make them trans-ponders) think that Americans won that war - they forget that at the time they were British, therefore the British won. :}

Huzzah for us. We win everything
Unless its on penalties.....

Good one:ok: !

However, remember when you had a substantial military? Seems you made a nuisance of yourselves at times as well.........:}

Let me get this straight. Your claim is the British beat the British. The British beat themselves? Is this some perverse Anglo argument with Onanism as the basic premise?

As for our dear Admiral Lafayette, what is your point Sir? Although not the best of soldiers, he did not suffer the same fate as your British admiral John Byng.

"However, remember when you had a substantial military? Seems you made a nuisance of yourselves at times as well........."

I can just about remember boyhood impressions of the mid-50s pre-Duncan Sandys era. When everything was sunny, we even had a real railway system......mumble, dribble, mumble! Probably the last time we had anything approximating to a 'substantial military'....certainly true of the RAF though; not sure about the other services.

To be boring for a minute - the answer to the original question is nothing exciting - just 3x Lynx holding at Kew going to N'holt for some gas on their way back from "Whatashame."

The rest were just navving back from work on transits (well - London looks mighty fine form the air at 1000ft!!)

Hey - who were the guys in the wokka that allegedly woke up some MOD senior hats at 0600hrs the other week....... :) :ouch:

AMAZINGLY - no-one even mentioned the Jungly Sea King throwing people out the back at the HAC Summer Ball some weeks back - 2000ft at 8pm and 5000ft at 1040pm. Anyone see it??:D

Back to the squabbling...... :)

Correct. Just as we did in 1642-51, the French did in 1789-99 and you did to yourselves in 1861-65. It's called a civil war and the popular uprising won. You had not established a nation until after the war and were a British colony, and therefore British citizens. Even then you weren't happy, hence your own civil war.

Glad you are an ex-colony!, we wouldn't win as many medals at the commonwealth games otherwise. But lets face it, the yanks have been stealthily invaded by so many different cultures that they have 50 mini countries(states) and no real natonal identity!
Stand by,stand by....
