Having returned from ZUR this morning on the 146 that Swiss are now using on the BHX-ZUR sctor, a question occurred: Why is there so much noise whenever the flaps are retracted or deployed? Is the noise generated by the altered airflow or is it the flaps mechanism itself? It has always puzzled me as I've never noticed any similar noise on other types, e.g 744, 737, 777, Embraers, etc.

Maybe because your ears are close to wing level - wild guess. :) Haven't a clue.

Erm...not sure what you mean. I was near the back outbound & return. But I have noticed the noise at other times on other Avro's. It's only today that I thought I'd put my anorak on & ask.....

I don't really know to be honest, was just guessing that because the wings are over you it might be a bit louder.

Thanks for the link. Afraid I'm a PC luddite so wasn't aware of the search thingie. I'll remember it in future though.

It answered the question; thanks.
