By now most of us have heard about the tragic loss of of a student microlight pilot over the weekend on the Hoo Peninsula in Kent. This poor bloke appears to have lain injured and in need of help for TWO DAYS in a remote area
accesible only by air. There are microlight clubs based in the area which could have responded had they been informed. As a fellow flexwing flyer I feel very sad that not enough was done quickly enough for one of our own.

Peggy

I think you are wrong, many people did search and the same evening a sea king search and rescue helicopter was scrambled with thermal heat kit. There was a very extensive search.

What a tragic loss. Assuming that the alarm was raised and as 007helicopter indicates a SAR helicopter was scrambled, then the last thing that is needed is half a dozen microlights trying to share the same airspace as a Sea King. Indeed one of the first actions by the SAR crew would be to contact ARCC Kinloos ask them to establish a TDA.

Just on a point of procedure - the TDA is established at the request of the ARCC via D & D.
