Can anyone tell me why AJM have been flying these wonderful MD11s into LHR the last few days. We've had an OMNI for a couple of days and this mornng I saw a fantastic World Airlines MD11 in an old colour scheme.

I take it one (or more) of their standard A340s are out of action?

One AJM A340 seen at Hamburg recently (for maintenance?). The Omni was a DC-10-30, not an MD-11, by the way.

sorry - my slip - the OMNI was indeed a DC10. I think it arrived two days in a row.

A few days ago one of their A340s returned to Heathrow with a flap problem, overweight landing and subsequent overheated brakes.

Last summer Air Jamaica were using an World MD11 (ex-Delta) at LHR subbing for the A340.
It was Delta A/L color scheme less the fleetnames.

I'm sure I heard an ATCO at LHR describe the World a/c as a DC10 today???

Was an Air Jamaica or a BWIA A340 diverted to, or having maintenance at Hahn Airport in Germany?

I'm sure I saw one flightplanned to fly into LHR from HHN on Tuesday (6th).

The two Air Jamaica's A340's are being repaired, they just got back the 340 that was damaged on the taxi way.

JM001 holds the unofficial record for the number of drug busts on a single flight, or so I am told.

Is there some kind of maintenance base for A340s at HHN, as I noticed an Air Tahiti A340 in and out of there today I think.

Every so often Air Jamaica A300s Airbus plane are sent to Hamburg for maintainance or Repair.
The planes which came into use when Air Jamaica started up again in 1996 are 10 years old and need major overhaul.
Sometimes a plane is sent over to Hamburg on an emergency.
This happen on 27th June 2005 when a major fault was discovered on the plane over from Jamaica. The Fault could not be repair in time for the return flight.
The Airbus plane was sent over to Hamburg for a major repair. This meant that the JM02 plane to Kingston, Jamaica 27th June 2005 was cancelled and had a knock on effect on the next day.
28th June 2005
The passengers schedule for 27th June 2005 which was cancelled replace the scheduled passengers for 28th June 2005 schedule plane (coming over from Jamaica) as JM02Y
The passengers scheduled for the flight JM02 on 28th June 2005 where delay onto the repaired Hamburg plane JM02B later in the evening.
Due to more technical problems (air-conditioning!) on its arrival back into London Heathrow at approx. 9.30pm it did not leave until 1.15am on the 29th June 2005.
This is a very familiar occurance on Air Jamaica planes.

Until pax began to be screened for drugs before embarkation in Jamaica, JM001 would always receive special treatment from Customs on arrival at LHR.

They always got a result with up to one in five pax carrying something on every flight.
