Hi

I am trying to identify this aircraft in the link below;

http://richardflagg.fotopic.net/p27951524.html

it is from my own collection and I think it is a Spad of some description. I have tried all the usual google type websites but can't find anything. If anyone knows the correct serial number or its history it would be appreciated as well.

It was taken at Fantasy Of Flight, Polk City, Florida.

Thanks

Richard

Hi Richard,

It looks like a Nieuport 17 to me.

See here,

I would say the definitive reference book is probably Harleyford's 'Fighter Aircraft of the 1914-1918 War', published in 1960. I reckon its a Nieuport 23 too but I'll check in the book this evening.

Incidentally, no book written nowadays on the subject would include a phrase in the Forward to the effect of 'the authors are old enough to have seen a number of these aircraft in flight at the time...'.
