I recently flew into Calgary International and saw a bunch of forlorn looking 146s beside the runway. I assume these are ex Air BC planes awaiting some sort of fate?

This story from Smiliner.com dated Feb 2005.

Jazz retires its BAe 146s
Air Canada Jazz retired its last BAe 146 on February 15. The move, announced last summer, is part of the re-organization plan of parent Air Canada. Air Canada has ordered Bombardier CRJ700s and CRJ705s and Embraer 175s and 190s to renew its regional jet fleet. Jazz operated ten series 200s which had been previously operated by predecessors AirBC and Air Nova. The 146s are currently parked at Calgary and Halifax pending their return to BAE Systems. Thanks, Oshkosh.

Sounds like they've been stuck there well over 12 months, for a couple of Canadian winters then. Not too sure I (or anyone) would want to pick up the costs of getting them back into reliable shape again.

Yes, they didn't look too fresh. However, Calgary generally has low humidity which probably helps a bit.

Awaiting a return to BAe Systems?

I assume that they aren't going to take the airframes back until they can find someone to move them onto?

Swiss seem to be picking up a load of RJ's, maybe a suitable customer?
