Weapons No One Can Afford (http://www.strategypage.com/htmw/htproc/articles/20060514.aspx) Interesting article. I didnīt know about the DDX cancellation, and the estimate of the number of P-8As which will actually be bought is eye opening.

StrategyPage is a long way from a credible source, my friends.

HASC proposed cutting DDX to 2 ships (from 7) but this proposal will doubtless be killed by the Senators from Maine and Mississippi (where the remaining 5 will be built), especially once ot's pointed out that little savings would be realised from HASC's plan to 'move the capabilities to a new destroyer design'.

But $7 billion each? Thatīs the same cost as a Nimitz class CVA.....

Or from Augustine's Laws :

Law Number XVI: In the year 2054, the entire defense budget will purchase just one aircraft. This aircraft will have to be shared by the Air Force and Navy 3-1/2 days each per week except for leap year, when it will be made available to the Marines for the extra day.

Forshadowed by President Calvin Cooledge's reaction to the high price of aircraft being bought pre WW-I, when he is reputed to have suggested that we buy one aeroplane and let the aviators take turns flying it.
