Anyone got any pointers for:

Italian aviation weather websites

Glossaries of Italian aviation terminology

Ease of transiting Italian controlled airspace. I've got a transponder, but what is going to happen when I pitch up at 10nm to run and ask to tiddle through? Looking at the charts, you could be a bit stuffed if they make problems because you have the mountains on one side (boy, are they high!) and the sea on the other.

Thanks,

David

I have only very limited experience of Italian VFR, but from what I've seen, they're no more or less co-operative than anywhere else really, although the answer to the question "can I transit at FLxxx" seems always to be, "yes, transit approved at 1000 ft" !

Suggest you try the guys at Italian AOPA, they were pretty helpful to me, but I really don't think you should have a problem.

All ATC we spoke to had pretty good English, so the only terminology advice I can give is

"yes we have AVGAS" = "we'll have AVGAS next week sometime" !

FF :ok:

Thanks, FF, my ears start to bleed above 1000ft agl so that sounds OK to me.

I shall talk to Italian AOPA -- very good idea. Thanks.

I am planning to land with at least 1.5hrs fuel in the tanks after what everyone has told me about fuel availability (usually have that in there anyway).

Cheers,
