Evening everyone,

Just a quick question regarding the validity of a class one medical. I took my initial class one medical at Gatwick on April 1st 2003 when i was 17. I let the medical lapse into a class 2 the year after and have stayed in this situation. I read somewhere that there is a maximum time limit (4 or 5 years iirc.) that you are allowed to leave your class one medical dormant for before going back to Gatwick for a re-test.

Can anyone enlighten me on the exact time limit? Look forward to the replies.

Many Thanks

Dan

Why not give Gatwick a ring? They're the ones with the answers!

It is 4 or 5 years - either way, you're still in the clear. A lot of guys allow their med to lapse into class 2 unless they're working. I shall be renewing my class one in a couple of weeks after doing precisely the same thing almost two years ago to the day that I'll be renewing it.

Check the facts very carefully with CAA Medical Branch.

With ATCOs, theres no such thing as "lapsing" from a class one to class two medical, and the period of validity is far more rigerous.

It may differ slightly for pilots, but not much.
