Bl**dy politicians do it again. The Sardinia Region has imposed a tax on all private aeroplanes landing on their island: 150 euro for a four seat single.

I suggest you fly else where for your holidays.

Below is an extract of the AOPA Italy press release (mods, remove if inappropriate)

Milan May 5th 2006

Sardinia: a luxury tax on tourist’s houses, airplanes and boats
Most of you have already heard of a tax proposed by the Sardinia Regional Government: it planned the creation of a luxury tax “on second houses, airplanes and private yachts destinated to the local communities in favour of poorer communities”. Well, the proposition has been approved yesterday and it is now a tax. Whoever will land in any of the island’s airports with a four seats single engine will be charged an extra tax of 150,00.= Euro !!
AOPA ITALY cannot do anything but condemn the initiative and invite the European General Aviation community to avoid Sardinia. Italy is a wonderful Country with almost 3.000 Nautical miles of coastline and many other airports located near tourist resorts: avoid Sardinia and make the local authorities understand that they are hurting not only themselves but also your fellow pilots who will decide to follow our advice; by going anyway, not only you will have to pay but you will prove the local authority that they were right: they can do anything against G.A.! …. and, if you are connected to Tiscali (as a communication provider) … look for another one !
