Am pleased to annnounce the results of the London Air Show Inter Service Paper Aeroplane Competition as follows:

201 Flt 815 NAS
Royal Australian Air Force
29(R) Sqn RAF (sponsor of 'Biff's Corner')

Seriously guys - thanks for all your help with the RN Historic Flight - superb atmosphere and great banter! The Young Flyers really enjoyed the competition. The winner was Oscar (aged 14) who threw his design over 32 metres!!! Working on the kid's challenge for '07.
Good Luck for your display season - hope your stands had as much fun as we did.

Perhaps you should let the Defence Procurement Agency know, they might be interested in a future pilotless combat aircraft at a low cost......I think about £20 mill each should be a good opening gambit for an MOD procurer!
Might buy shares in paper.

Okay,

I have been watching this thread and looking for some enlightment as to why 29(R) Sqn RAF (i.e. the Typhoon mates) were sponsoring 'Biff's Corner' for the RN's warbirds?

Obviously missing the connection - but please someone put me out of my misery!

The answer is as simple as the RAF recruiting/Typhoon stand was next door to the RN's stand, including the Historic Flights. The Typhoon aircrew just couldn't resist the competition! Sadly though, despite numerous attempts and various designs the lads could only manage 25 cms, beaten by a 2 1/2 year old called Sophie!!

But to be honest, the fact that their designs were not managing to fly any distance was great for the kids that also had problems in obtaining flight with their attempts as they felt in good company!

All of the paper aeroplanes that could not fly were placed in 'Biffs Corner' with the Typhoon's aircrew example to show the children which designs worked and which didn't. To be honest only about 20 designs over the whole 3 days didn't make it onto the runway, the remaining 600 all managed some distance!

Seeing the guys in uniform (from both Services) sit down with the children, help make the planes and then discuss their designs was great to watch and the children really appreciated someone taking the time with them.

Any wiser now Maroon Man 4?

If I am not mistaken, that Australian pictured is a certain MC from a certain secret bunker somewhere near Alnwick .....

I thought he was busy!

I might have known he'd be at an Air Show!

You are right. Not surprised he was a hit with the kiddies. They are taller than him!

That's why we call him 'Joey'.:p
