I recently sent off an RAF medical form and have been told that I am permanently unfit for air service because in april 1997 i received an inhaler. There is no record of me receiving one since though. I understand the need for the highest standards of fitness but it seems to me that this is a little OTT. Is there any waqy of appealing or getting around it?

Do a search for "Asthma" on this forum and it will provide some useful info.

I too had a medical snag when applying having been given an inhaler aged 8. I got around it by searching for the actual doc who diagnosed me. I presented her with my medical reports which showed no other signs of breathing problems from then on and a current report written by a private doc which showed no breathing snags or chest problems.

This worked, the doc wrote a letter to OASC saying the intial diagnosis of Asthma was probably a little harsh and was more likely a chest infection.

If you have any questions please PM me.

All the best
