My Instrument Rating is about to lapse and so I have 2 questions.

1. Is there any company out there where I can get some ICUS time on Baron, C310 or PA31 and will be willing to renew my I/R?

2. If I let my multiengine I/R lapse and renew it on say a fast single are there any reulations laid down for renewing the MECIR at a later date and will the renewal be treated as a renewal & just getting up to speed on the twin ops?

Just a guess. I would suggest that you would need a re-issue on the Multi rating as that would have expired.

No, thats not correct from what I was told it is a renewal of the I/R just done on a twin. In fact as long as the I/R has not lapsed for more than 12 months. The ILS can be done in a CAT2 sim and the NDB in the aircraft.

Just because you are now renewing the I/R from single to twin it is not considered an initial issue.

Have a look at the rules or make some calls to your school. But it looks clear to me

CAO 40.2.1
12 RENEWAL
12.1 A grade of instrument rating must be renewed for a period of 12 months from
the date of its expiry if:

Check the rest for yourself.

Also CAR 5.14 defines grades of instrument ratings as.

(g) an instrument rating of one of the following grades:
(i) command (multi-engine aeroplane);
(ii) command (single engine aeroplane);
(iii) co-pilot (aeroplane);
(iv) command (multi-engine helicopter);
(v) command (single engine helicopter);
(vi) co-pilot (helicopter);

(ga) a private I.F.R. rating of one of the following grades:
(i) multi-engine aeroplane grade;
(ii) single-engine aeroplane grade;
(iii) multi-engine helicopter grade;
(iv) single-engine helicopter grade;

I would suggest that the key work here is "Grade" of instrument rating.
