How do I change the file extension in Win XP?
I downloaded some music from the net and the file extension was .JPG, the site instructions says to change the file extension to .MP3 to listen to them?
I tried renaming them to 'songtitle'.mp3 but that just changes them to 'songtitle'.mp3.jpg:confused:

You need to go to Tools -> Folder Options -> View

and untick the "Hide extensions for known filetypes" box, and click OK

You should then be able to see your music filename in full i.e music.jpg

you can then press F2 (rename) and delete the jpg and replace it with mp3

and untick the "Hide extensions for known filetypes" box, and click OKIt is a good idea to have file extensions shown at all times, as you may think someone has sent you a file called (for example) "Readme.txt" so you decide to open it to read it, after all, a txt file is ok. However, because you are hiding file extensions, you will not see that it is called "Readme.txt.vbs" or "Readme.txt.exe" and that it could contain a nasty payload.
