Not so quick Jimmy!
It depends on alot of factors, is the flight commercial or not? do you hold a JAA license with a rating for that aeroplane, issued in the country which the flight is going to be made? According to FAR 61.3 you may act as pilot in command of an "N" reg aeroplane in a country outside the US if you hold a valid license for said country and a rating for that type as long as it is not for commercial use. So YES you may if you conform to the above, you do not need a FAA rating to fly an "N" reg aeroplane outside US airspace.
However if it is a commercial flight for financial gain, or if you are going to cross any international borders, No is the answer.

If you are crossing a border, out of the country that issued your licence it becomes a no no.
There should be hundreds of AME's to do your medical in LA even on a weekend.
Good luck
