What are the employment prospects for newly qualified NZ CPLs? What sort of jobs do they get? What are the best schools to go to for training? What sort of experience do Air NZ require?

get your arse to africa, maun or swakapmund. I arrived in maun with 212 hours and landed a job flying 206's getting 800 hrs a year. Dont waste your time in nz unless you really want to fly there

I trained in New Zealand, then went home to UK for a year. No joy on the job front there, not enough hours.

So I have scored a job in Maun also. Took a month and I count that lucky, still some good guys there waiting to get the nod.

It may be a C206 but its the most fun I am gonna get for paid work in the cockpit, not to mention a wealth of experience that you just cant buy.

A couple of years of your life to get the all important hours under your belt is a good trade.

A 206 is a great first job aircraft. There are also opportunities in Aus with companies like Sling Air, but I agree that Africa would offer the best all round experience.

Having said that, if you aren't too keen to leave NZ, there are jobs around, you've just gotta put in the mileage. Ring around all the operators you're interested in, and make appointments to go and see them (preferably someone in a position of influence). You may pick something up straight away, or it may take months, but you will get there if you are willing to stick at it.

In terms of experience for Air New Zealand, you will need to work for a regional turboprop operator first. There are the Air NZ link airlines: Eagle require 1000 hrs total and 200 multi, Air Nelson have been flexible lately, but like 1500 and 500. There are also plenty of other options like Airwork, Air National, Vincent, Air Wanganui. They would have similar requirements to Eagle.
