...for absolutely no other reason than it's somewhere I've never flown to before.

Except, it seems to be under Harry Potter's Invisibility Cloak in that it only warrants a little purple blob on the 1/4 mil and doesn't even exist on Multimap, Ordnance Survey, The AIP or my Pooley's. I've found a contact number on a microlight website (I was only passing... honest) but wonder if any of you have flown there or are based there. Is there anywhere to get a cuppa or pay a couple of hundred quid for a bacon sarnie? :E

I know that a helicopter operation has started up there so I guess the '22 and I are allowed in.

Any info, folks (and yes, I have tried a search on here - it's only mentioned in three posts and only in passing)?

Thanks!

:ok:

PS. forgot this bit - it's in Essex (pronounced "Ess-icks") near Upminster, in case you were wondering.

I heard about the new Heli Site - but have yet to see anything on radar go in there.

From an ATC perspective, there will be traffic at 3000ft descending ont he 28ILS - and you are clsoe to the edge of the LCY zone. Also - don't forget that the zone to the EAST will be moving 1.5nm towards DH - with a little CTA from 1500-2500ft.

Oh - and everyone routeing via the QE2 bridge tends to route just to the East of it to ensure they avoid the zone.

When Breeze heliport started, they come and talked to TC at West Drayton - if the new operation touches base I will let you know.

I've seen it from the road and we get a lot of visitors from there ... but couldn't tell you any more!

Don't believe the heliport bit is operating till next month, but try Helicentre at Coventry as they are the people running it.

I think this is it:

In this photo it's the green strip in a larger brown field. The runway is oriented 03/21.

Looks like an airfield to me. Also referred to as Upminster

Found these road directions:
UPMINSTER-DAMYNS HALL FARM

Head in to Aveley on B1335 and head north on Aveley road signed to Upminster. A few hundred yards after a crossroads (Warwick Road and Bramble Lane) you will see a couple of houses on the left. There is an RVP sign – turn here for the strip. Down the side is a small road with a barrier, which is often closed but there is room to walk past. The strip is beyond the gate. Don’t forget the far set of hangars, hidden behind hedge near the runway. They aren’t easily visible from the first ones as they are hidden by a dip.

This field is closer to my place than I realised! Does anyone have the runway info (not given on the above sites!) and whether hangarage is available? I guess I could phone them, but Im lazy :}

According to this unverified source, it's approximately 650m long. This figure seems consistant with an estimation using the satellite image in my earlier post.
http://www.microlightsport.co.uk/News/julyeventwebpages/byair.htm

CAA Ammendments for Edition 30 of the Southern England chart warn of the nearby Gerpins Farm strip, effective from 2nd August 2005 - this may be that strip visible 3 fields to the left on the above satellite image. GERPINS FARM aerodrome at position 513153N 0001352E - elevation 30 (Note - this site is very near Damyns Hall aerosite)

Thanks for all the links, pics and info guys. I clearly give up too easily looking for stuff on the interwebnet

I'm surprised there's not been a reply from anyone on the forum flies from there yet. Is it a secret? :)

Yes I've been there a few times, nice setting, just keep away from the power lines! There is some hangarage in sheds some 100 yds from the runway. :ok:

This would be the same Damyns Hall that is about to get an ATZ and become Helitown UK, right?

This is the site with some airfield details..
http://www.microlightsport.co.uk/

I flew in here a week or two back.
Afraid no bacon sarnies.
They have a new cross runway which is poorly marked out, with a few traffic cones.

There is a new hangar which has a couple of stearman in.
A friend took delivery Friday of a C42 ikarus and it,s now based here.
He tells me they are going to put up a few more hangars.
