I could do with some expert knowledge and advice. I am a military fast jet pilot who will leave the RAF with 3000 hrs and a FATPL/IR. After careful thought, I have decided not to try and join many of my colleagues with companies like BA and Virgin etc, prefering to find work close to my new home in the North of England (Cleveland). I am not really interested in living out of a suitcase for 20/30 days each month, and I would be quite happy doing some local pottering about even if the pay is less. How do I find out which companies are local? Would they need to be based at Teeside/Newcastle or merely provide a service from those airports? Also, do the smaller companies insist on type ratings or will most convert you? Grateful for any advice and apologies if these questions are a bit naive as this is my first post and I am only just starting to look for work in the civilian sector. Yours, "Bad"

I would imagine you would have a good chance of being taken on with your experience by someone like FRA or Flight precision based at Teesside.
http://www.fraviation.com/

Additionally Bmi baby introduce their 2nd aircraft soon to be based at MME (737) and it may be worth contacting Eastern Airways who have aircraft based at teesside as well- Jetstream 31 and 41
Newcastle have quite a few Charter airlines as well as Easyjet...and many others, take a look on the Newcastle Airport website to see who operates from there.
