View Full Version : Cessna 210 Weight and Balance?

Just looking through a Cessna 210 POH from a local flying school here in Bankstown and learning the weight and balance section of it. I noticed that there is no published maximum seat weight anywhere in Section 6. I know with other aircraft there is a maximum amount of weight you can place on each seat......

Is there such a weight with the C210?

Also, is there a Maximum Landing Weight figure or is it the same as MTOW (1724KGs)?

Thanks all

Cant say I am aware of the maximum seat weight as I am not too familiar with the 210 yet but generally speaking if there is no listed MLW then you can assume it to be the same as the MTOW.

Also check the landing performance charts if you cant find anything in the limitations section of the POH as most landing charts will make mention of any maximum landing weight (assuming the correct performance chart for the plane is in there!)

I had a 180kg gent sitting middle rhs on a scenic not so long ago.:uhoh:
It was a struggle to get him in but surprisingly enough the seatbelt managed to contain his considerable girth. I must admit I didn't check the max seat loading however a reasonable portion of his butt was resting on the adjacent seat so it would have been difficult to determine.

I always used MTOW for MLW. Amazing load carrier the 210.

Depending on the particular design standard, the presumed occupant weight for seat design varies typically 170-215 lb. (eg see FAR 23.785 (http://ecfr.gpoaccess.gov/cgi/t/text/text-idx?c=ecfr&sid=76ed482cb35addfa9cbabfa389a1934b&rgn=div8&view=text&node=14:1.0.1.3.10.4.84.58&idno=14)).

Problem with a big boy in the seat is that, in the event of a prang, the seat will let go at a lower deceleration .. moral ... for multi place seats, try to be seated in a seat behind the seat with the big guys in.

For seat loading, generally plan on a maximum of 170 lb (77 kg) per seat place. For Australia, this figure is mandated for seat loaded cargo in CAO 20.16.2 (http://www.casa.gov.au/download/orders/Cao20/201602.pdf) ... then have a look at paras 5.1 and 6.2. I am not aware of any "limitation" on passenger (over)weight (think of the PC revolt) ... and, with some head shaking, I recall a flight with ANZ some years ago when I was doing some contract work for that operator and I was sandwiched in between two VERY much larger, well-tanned, chaps from a Pacific Nation. Nice chaps but I wouldn't have wanted to run through a ditching on that occasion ...

Generally, if you need limitation data for a given aircraft, the easiest place to look is in the relevant TCDS (http://www.airweb.faa.gov/Regulatory_and_Guidance_Library/rgMakeModel.nsf/MainFrame?OpenFrameSet) ... and, specifically, for the C210 one goes to TCDS 3A21 (http://www.airweb.faa.gov/Regulatory_and_Guidance_Library/rgMakeModel.nsf/0/A4D4BE19C544732F86256E2B0059A283?OpenDocument) which lets you download the document as a PDF file (http://www.airweb.faa.gov/Regulatory_and_Guidance_Library/rgMakeModel.nsf/0/a4d4be19c544732f86256e2b0059a283/$FILE/3A21.pdf). One then flicks through to find the particular model. Looking at the AFM/POH .. if the limitations section doesn't give a lower MLW, then use the MTOW.

A long time since I have been in a 210 so I can't rely on memory .. a quick flick through the TCDS suggests that MTOW=MLW except for a few of the later models.

Is this the "slippery beast"?
The POH from there is fairly detailed (assuming its the same A/C), also if you have any questions about the aircraft im sure the owner will be more than happy to help you with it :E

But other than that I do not recall a maximum seat weight, the MLW is the same as the MTOW for that aircraft (from memory)
