Was at FRA over the weekend and noticed what looked to be an LH A300 miles out of the way past the south (ex. US Military) apron, past a possible firefighting aircraft.

Just wondering if anyone knew why it was there (engine tests???) and whether all that area has now been claimed back by the airport from the US?

I notice (since the last time I was at FRA) that one of the US Hangars now says "Mission Complete".

Hmmmm.

I think it is D-AIAX the A300 that was leased by Hapag LLoyd last year from Lufthansa and now in short term storage......

I noted it in the position you decribe in late January!

Hope this helps

The area was given back to the airport last year.
Have a look here (http://www.fraport.com/cms/press_center/dok/68/68497.closing_of_u_s_rheinmain_air_base_frankf.htm) (you need to reload the page if it doesn't appear).
