I've tried a couple of brief searches and it hasnt thrown anything up, so apologies to regulars if this is an old topic.
Has anyone got any experience of hiring and flying in Ireland?....I've a straight PPL (no IMC etc) and wouldnt rule out a flying holiday in the future.
Can anyone recommend a club?......any info/web links etc appreciated.

This link provides a wealth of information about flying in Ireland. Particularly useful are the forums and links sections, most if not all you need to know can be found on it.

Weston airport is definitely the most active and friendly from a GA perspective. Its link is:

The best known flight school operating from Weston is the National Flight Centre.

Hope these links are of assistance. Enjoy your trip.

Alvin,

Are you talking about once off/irregular hiring, or joing a club and regular flying type of hire?

As I understand it, most of the places in Weston (if not all) will require you to have a 5 hour checkout, regardles of experience (save exceptional circumstances), and won't be happy for you to take the aircraft away for more than 24 hours.

The clubs at Dublin Airport are more than happy for you to take aircraft away, but you have to be a member and pay monthly subs, which probably wouldn't suit if it's a once off hire!

I've no idea about the other airports.

The idea was for a one off flying holiday after seeing some of the scenery on TV the other day.
Many thanks for the replies, I'll have to do my research.
