Peter Jackson's Camel was damaged recently in Masterton during practise for an airshow. It ended up on its back when taxiing in gusty conditions.
What do we know of the survivability of original rotary engines when subjected to this kind of abuse? Am I right in thinking that the hollow crankshaft that mounts these engines to the aircraft wouldn't cope too well with this?
If it was windy enough to do this on the ground with or without wingwalkers, was it clever to be out there in the first place? Not the best way to treat a 90 year old original engine.
