ASL (NZ) Doin What They Do Best

Rocked up at the exam this morning 20 minutes beforehand and handed in my South Australia drivers license as per usual (my 10th exam), and the supervisor from "head office" didnt like it.

She insisted that it must be a NZ drivers license or a passport.

Now, I have noticed that it is stated on the acceptance slip, but, please!!

The regular examiner (a decent bloke) backed me up saying that he knows me from all the other exams but she wouldnt have a bar of it.

There was never any doubt to my identity, and she knew it. Damn that was frustrating. This is the same one that sends wrong exams out, right exams to wrong places, and even fails to get exams couriered on time.

I managed to get her to agree to let me sit the afternoon session (and go home to get my passport), so all is well and at least I didnt have to wait another month to sit it, and then the b:mad: ch starts going on about what a big favour she was doing me and I was lucky she was there from head office that day.

Lucky for them its a monopoly, because with management like that........ well.

Have also had problems with the wonderful world of ASL, fortunately only 2 more exams to go and I wont have to worry about them ever again.

I only noticed after sitting a couple of exams, and it was working, and, well... It is what I use to drive my car here in NZ...
And its not like its just a piece of paper from some third-world country with a photo glued on the front.

Point is, as stated earlier, she knew exactly who I was all along, and stopped me from doing the exam on an irrelevant technicality.

Which technically makes her a F:mad: wit!

I knew you'd be waiting...and...well...someone had to ask :) Point taken about the technicality but one persons technicality is another person's bureaucratic bread and butter and raison d'etre - I bet she felt she'd earned her entire annual salary at that moment but nonetheless your astute technical observation is probably correct :)

This is mild......you could actually argue this either way as opposed to most of ASL's cock ups which are plain and simple cock ups. I am looking forward to the day someone sets up in competition...Asl is so bad that I think the competitor could actually enter the market with much higher fees and still take the lions share of condidates. Incompetence and arrogance are the first words that spring to mind if ASL are mentioned.

Try organising your life around their exam/marking schedule or getting a refund from them.

Sat my last ATPL in Oct. last year. Walked out thinking I had totally blew it, as I had done with most of their other highly relevant, up to date exams.

As a result, I called ASL and found out it was possible to get a 100% refund if I paid for the exam and ended up passing. I waited until the last possible minute for the results to be published on the net (just to be sure).
Ended up forking out another $166 on the credit card. Next day, results showed up. Pass.
Got hold of ASL straight away and told them I wanted my money back. No can do. Only get 80% refund. Man did I have a go at them over that. Finally got hold of someone up high. Got told my money was going to be sent to me via a cheque at the end of the month. Three months later (1 day before Christmas) after numerous calls and e-mail, the cheque showed up. It took another 2 weeks for it to clear due the public holidays.

Thank :mad: I never have to deal with them again.
